Over 10 sessions, Dr Lizzy Tanguay will guide you through every stage of thesis writing, from setting up systems and routines to editing and refining your final draft. Lizzy is a writing specialist with 20 years' experience in higher education. Each taught workshop is followed by a group coaching session where you'll apply what you've learned, workshop your own writing, and get personalised guidance.

Frequently asked questions

Will the sessions be recorded?
The instructional sessions will be recorded, but the group coaching won't be. The course is designed around live participation. The coaching sessions, group discussions, and Lizzy's feedback are all dependent on your being in the Zoom room live.
What type of thesis does this work for?
The programme is designed to work with all thesis formats: traditional monograph theses, paper-based or publication-based submissions, and more innovative structures. The workshops cover principles that apply across disciplines and formats.
What if I cannot make one of the sessions?
The programme runs over 13 weeks with three built-in breaks, so there is some breathing room. If you need to miss a session, you will still benefit from the surrounding sessions. But because the coaching sessions build on the workshops, attending consistently will give you the most from the programme.
Do I need to share my writing with others?
The coaching sessions involve discussing your writing with other participants and with Lizzy. This is where much of the learning happens. By registering, you agree to share your writing-in-progress with the group.
I have not written much yet. Am I ready for this?
Yes. The programme starts with setting up systems and routines, so it meets you where you are. You do not need to have a draft to bring. The first sessions are about building the foundations that make writing possible.
Do I need to be a Common Room member?
No. The Thesis Incubator is open to all doctoral researchers. Common Room members may receive a discount when booking via the member platform.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
Yes. We offer a double money-back guarantee. If you complete the programme and do not find it worthwhile, we will refund twice what you paid.
What stage of my PhD should I be at?
The programme is designed for researchers who are actively working on their thesis, whether you are in your first year or writing up. The content covers everything from early-stage planning to final editing, so you will find sessions relevant to wherever you are.
