Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading

Your ideas are what matter. Our job is to make sure the writing doesn’t get in the way of them.

We can help. We’re a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), which means we’re bound by their Code of Practice covering quality, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.

We’ll never alter your argument. We’ll never change your voice. And we’ll always be transparent about what we’ve done and why.

Two services. One goal: a thesis that reads as well as it thinks.

Most PhD students come to us for one of two things: language correction, or structural support. Sometimes both. Here’s what each service covers.

Proofreading

Spelling, grammar, punctuation, word choice, and consistency. Your editor will correct errors and improve clarity while preserving your voice and your argument.

You can add reference checking (we’ll verify your citations are formatted correctly against your chosen style guide) and document formatting (we’ll ensure your thesis meets your university’s submission guidelines).

Developmental Editing

Structure, argument, flow, and academic tone. Your editor will give detailed written feedback on how to strengthen your work, chapter by chapter.

If you want to go deeper, you can book a 30-minute Zoom call with your editor after you receive their feedback. It’s a chance to ask questions, talk through the suggestions, and leave knowing exactly what to do next.

Your editor will actually understand what you've written.

We assign every order to an editor with expertise in your subject area. All of our editors hold a PhD themselves. Most have supervised or examined doctoral work.

That means they know what your examiner is looking for. They can follow your argument, catch discipline-specific errors, and edit your work without simplifying it.

Whether your thesis is in biochemistry or philosophy, your editor will speak your language.

Your work stays yours. Completely.

We treat every document as strictly confidential. We’ll sign a non-disclosure agreement if you need one, and we’ll never share, store, or reference your work beyond what’s required to edit it.

We use track changes throughout, so you can see every edit we’ve made and accept or reject each one individually. Nothing is changed without a trace.

We also offer a 100% money-back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with the finished work.

We never use AI

Every edit is made by a human who has read your work from start to finish. That matters because AI can’t follow a complex academic argument, and your institution almost certainly prohibits its involvement anyway.

When you submit your thesis, you can state honestly that it was edited by a human professional. No caveats, no grey areas.

FAQs

What's included in proofreading?

We correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and word choice. We improve sentence clarity and consistency throughout. We use track changes so you can see and approve every edit.

You can add reference checking (citations verified against your chosen style guide) and document formatting (thesis laid out to your university’s submission requirements).

There are strict rules governing what we are allowed to do. That means we can’t:

1. Write or create content for you. This includes things like table of contents, abstracts or bibliographies.

2. Alter the structure of your text beyond what would be expected in the proofreading process (i.e. we can improve language fluency, but we can’t restructure chapters).

3. Make stylistic changes to make the work more ‘academic’ or ‘professional’.

What's included in developmental editing?

Your editor will provide written feedback on structure, argument, flow, and academic tone — chapter by chapter. You’ll receive a detailed editorial report alongside your marked-up document.

You can also book a 30-minute follow-up Zoom call with your editor to go through the feedback in person.

Will my examiner be able to tell it's been professionally edited?

Examiners are familiar with the standard of writing that editing produces. What they’re assessing is your argument, your research, and your understanding. Professional editing helps present those things clearly; it doesn’t replace them.

We work within the guidelines of your institution. If you’re unsure what’s permitted, check with your supervisor first.

How long will it take?

Turnaround times depend on word count and whether you choose standard or express. You can get an instant estimate using the calculator below. Enter your word count and the turnaround time appears automatically.

Can you work to a tight deadline?

Express turnaround is available for all orders. For very short deadlines, contact us before placing your order and we’ll confirm availability.

Do you work on chapters or full theses?

Both. We work on anything from a single chapter to a full 100,000-word thesis. The calculator handles any word count between 1,000 and 100,000 words.

Submit right first time. Save months of corrections.

An examiner who has to wade through language errors will find it harder to follow your argument. That costs you, regardless of how strong the underlying research is.

We’ve seen this pattern many times. Strong PhD students receiving corrections not because their thinking was wrong, but because the writing made it hard to see that the thinking was right.

A writing check-up is a small investment against that risk. We’ll make sure the examiner can focus on your ideas rather than your grammar.
